sub box size

very soon i will be doing a sub enclosure 

i will be using a 10" JL audio sub and i have picked the technitians brains at my local car audio shop and found these work best in 1 cubic foot boxes

basically all i want to kno is does the box have to be square or can it be rectangle, as where im putting it i have the height but not the depth so i  was thinking of making the box rectange, i would of thought as long as the internal volume is correct it shouldnt matter about shape

am i right?

also would it be better sealed or ported? i listen to lots of different music, my taste ranges from stuff like enter shikari, to kanye west and from really dirty heavy dubstep to dance music, and a bit of indie like hard fi and a good bit of oasis/britpop etc. im not really into blowing the windows out of macdonalds as you drive past, more quality but i wouldnt mind a bit of volume

You can make the box any shape you want. Infact square is probably the worst from a technical point of view to make a box.

Sealed or ported depends on the sub. If you know the model number for example 10W3v2 of the JL sub i can give you a recomendation.

it would probably be a 10w0v2 due to the lack of space i have to play with, considering my music taste would a ported or sealed be better?

another question would it make any difference to dynamat the inside of th sub box? ive heard some places that this can imporve the sound, is that right?

and finally im making a false floor and side boards and covering these in vinyl leather, i was going to use camping sleeping mat sort of foam underneath the vinyl to pad it out, would this give a "dynamat" effect or would i need to sound deaden the boot aswell as use the foam?

sorry for all these questions but i havent built a sub enclosure before or done a boot build and i want to get it perfect first time lol
