MK5 GTi to a MK6 TDI - VCDS question
« on: 24 July 2010, 20:30 »
Well after some contemplation between an Audi A3 black edition and a MK6 Golf, I opted for the latter.  Mainly because I was used to driving golfs as I have had a MK5 GTi for the past 4yrs and also it was around 6k cheaper.  Found an '09 GT TDi 5 door, 6000 miles on the clock with sat nav fitted for 17.5k.  Very happy with the decision as I get quite a lot more mpg now.  Just have to get used to the manual gearbox after having the dsg in the GTi.

Anyway, while playing around with VCDS on it, initially I had an issue with the alarm not working.  After reseating the fuse, all was good.  After ticking the box for alarm confirmation for opening/ closing doors, nothing seems to work, i.e. no sound.  When locked or opened, the indicators flash but no horn or cheep.  I had this on the MK5 and would like it on the MK6.

For those that have enabled it, it is just a case of ticking the box?.  Also there is a box for the alarm type or sirens a bit further along the coding in the central electrics module, (not too sure of the exact name as I forgot to write it down).  Anybody know what this is for and what options it gives?.

Thanks in advance

The alarm chirp can be activated as I have done it with VAG.COM  It is only when the doors lock though.

Thanks for the reply.

When I got the MK6, I trawled through the net trying to find info about what can and can't be changed and found the info.

I have tried again today.  Here is a snapshot of the screen:

This image shows the tick box ticked for confirmation via the horn, but it still doesn't work!  Any ideas?

It would be a nice feature to have.  Please help!!!

Ive not done it so im not sure but from experience working with CANsystems day in day out try unclicking then sending the info then try clicking them and resending. Sometimes it hickups and misses the instructions.

Did you have all the doors shut?
Sometimes this can affect the instructions.
Try opening and closing the doors again.

Well I've tried again both with the drivers door open and closed and reticking the box but nothing seems to work.  I unticked the box for confirmation via blinker and tried locking. Hazards still flashed!. I've changed the number of blinks in the indicator option in adaptation and that works fine.

It appears that the module is locked somehow to stop any change. Could this be the case?. I even did an autoscan afterwards to see whether the module accepted my instruction, which it had.  But I can't seem to get the cheep working!

I've just tried it with all the doors open. Still doesn't work!.

I have just checked mine and the same Byte has a couple of extra bits defined.

The important one is Bit2 Horn Confirmation Adaption Blocked.

If this is set then setting Bit0 and Bit1 will have no effect.
Check to see if this definition is in one of the other bytes as I know it was in the MK5.
If not you could manually clear the bit, as yours is set, by setting the value to 23.

The only thing is that my controller seems to be version 'C' compared to yours so not sure if it will work.

Many thanks for that. I'll go and have a look for the horn adaptation box and make sure it's not ticked.

My car is an '09 plate. Is this why my controller is the first revision and not version C?.

Cheers

Well I think I have pretty much tried everything. I tried to manually change the coding to 23. It accepted it but didn't work. Trawled through the net and came across people with similar issues who suggest either checking the cabling to the secondary horn (didn't know there was one), make sure all the doors are locked and bonnet shut. Even if the cable isn't in correctly seated in the radio could cause the cheep not to cheep!.

So, looks like it might be a trip to the stealers. Any further recommendations would be appreciated.
