Loss of MPG
« on: 08 May 2010, 10:19 »
Hi guys!! I was hoping to pick your brains...
I have the 130 gttdi with 104k on the clock. The MPG on motorway was only 48-52 which I thought was poor so I decided to clean egr and inlet manifold both were v coked in crap.. Since the clean my MPG has dropped to 43-48... Still doing around 500+ on afull tank
Does anyone have any suggestions on what's happened or on what needs to be done.
Any help would be much appreciated

Don't count this as gospel but you may have pushed/moved some of that gunk down the exhaust manifold depending on how you cleaned it.

Other than that, when you put it back on it may be a little loose giving you a tiny boos leak.

500 miles to a tank is better than what I get, I only get 430 :( though I can't find my problem and haven;t had the EGR cleaned or deleted.

Cheers for that bud I'll double check all the bolts are tight, they are a bugger to get too...
If I did accidently push some crap down the exhaust port how do I clean that out??

The other part you wanna look at for leaks is the pipe that goes onto the EGR, very often that comes loose as the clips from VW are sh*te and the lugs can get worn giving you small leaks.

Not sure about the cleaning bit and don't want to advise you wrongly so will let a more experienced member give you some better advice.

Hope it gets sorted for ya and keep us posted.
