Centre Vents on mk2

Does anybody know if you remove the centre heater vents in the dash of a mk2 there is enough room to put in a stereo.

Got a Gamma stereo out of a mk4 golf complete with in dash 6 disk changer for free and just thought the changer would look ok sitting where the vents are.

I seem to remember that Huets had a white Mk2 as a demo car several years ago, and they actually had an Alpine 6 disc changer tucked behind those vents - they modded them so that they would fold down so that the magazine could be ejected etc.

I personally think it would be possible, as most things tend to be if you throw enough time/money at them! As Veedub says, you will need to modify your heating/ventialtion system otherwise you'll be chuffing hot air all over your headunit, which if it has thermal protection will sht it down.

I would suggest going to find a car as complete as possible in a scrap yard - you can have a play without butchering your own car then ;)

Dash is coming out when it goes for a respray early next year so will have a look then other than that going to mound it into the shelf storage thingy under the passenger side of the dash.

could always modify the service pouch under the dash on the drivers side to fit it in that way its accessible and out of sight!
