CV joints or something more sinister???

I'm no expert but i think unless you have an LSD fitted then you would lose all drive, it does sound if your cv joint has shat itself and gone west, lucky its more a dirty job to replace than a difficult one.

Yup classic CV joint failure. I just bought a replacement one off eBay for £22 including postage and arrived next day.

Thats about the cheapest ive seen (A local factors want £67 + £5 surcharge for the old one!!!)
As its my daily though it needs to get sorted on the weekend, so luckily a motor factors close to where I work can get one this afternoon for £22 + VAT so quite resonable.
Never done a CV joint before, whats the verdict on removing it insitu?
Does it pop of fairly easily?
I'd rather not touch the inner joint if at all possible, mainly because I dont have the spline tool.

Make sure you have some heavy duty cable ties available as those steel clamps for the boot are impossible to get on without the proper tool (don't know which one). Oh, and make sure you get a boot kit with the cv joint.

That looks fairly comprehensive and straight forward.
I assume i'll have to mark the position of the bottom joint before removal (as the holes are slotted if I remember correctly) to avoid having to have a geometry setup again.
Steve_B - thanks for the tip, ill pick up some metal cable ties incase I run into trouble.

Sorted this on the weekend.
The old CV joint was in a shocking state and was smashed into about 20 pieces, shame on me for letting it get so bad.
Never done one before but it all went quite smooth with no real hassle's.
Didnt even attempt to use the CV boot clips in the kit, just used a couple of heavy duty cable ties.
These should suffice the old boot was held on with the same and has been fine for years.
