Sealing a sub
« on: 14 March 2010, 10:31 »
Right, I built a sub housing for my boot for my A-level project.

But Kells pointed out it ain't sealed = fail on me.
I am going to see if I can add on a box unit behind the sub to seal it off, but my question is....Does the box behind the sub have to be of a certain size, I mean...does the airtight space inside need a certain volume or can I just build an airtight enclosure behind it as close to the back of the sub as I can due to limited space in the side of the boot? Also, does it have to be a certain asymmetric shape or can it be irregular?

It does (strictly) need to be over a certain size, it will sound bad if it is not. In extreme cases (but not yours I suspect ;)) it can damage the sub.

The box can be whatever shape you want (as long as you are running the sub sealed, ported you need to take a little more care for one reason and another)

I would be inclined, rather than making a box behind where it is now, I would extend/rebuild the top and possibly the bit we can't see (under the parcel shelf) to make what you have at the moment sealed, I personally would not want it smaller than it looks to be now.

Best way to make a sealed bo in the shape behind the arch is a messy job, fibregash tbh, then ypu can mould it into the space of the well.
But you need to work out what displacement you need for the sub to work properly.
