Intermittent starting problem
« on: 06 February 2010, 12:43 »
I have a J plate Mkii that sometimes refuses to start. It doesn't turn over or do anything .
I am not sure if it has a loose wire somewhere but sometimes I rummage around it then starts. The battery connection is ok as far as I am aware.
Can anyone help ?

Possible ignition switch, i guess if you wiggle and play with the key it will start.

I had this exact problem and it turned out to be the starter motor was knackered, next time it does it get someone to sit n the car with the key turned then gently tap the starter with a hammer, chances are it'll burst into life.

Starter motor fault, just changed mine due to exactly the same problem.
