Define "trying to start". If it fires then dies almost immediately that sounds like an immobiliser problem. If it keeps turning over but not firing (I'm guessing it's that option) then check carefully that you have put the HT leads on the distributor correctly. Firing order is 1342 (but you knew that    ) and rotor turns anti-clockwise as you look on the top of the distributor. So the distributor should be positioned something like:

all leads/plugs are all in okay....

it may of got damp when i topped up/emptied the washer bottle all over the place/coolant etc lol?...as it started first time today ...so will take it for a drive and see if it does it again ...

if a car has been driven for a while with the temp gauge not working and the car hasnt been getting up to heat properly due to thermostat or the other sensors not working , and then you fix this so the temp gauge is okay and the water etc is flowing around the engine now would this of done the engine any harm at all?...the water in the coolant bottle is a horrible colour ...orange really orange....i will need to take the bottom pipe off and flush it through again will i ?....is this the best pipe to take off the radiator to flush it

cheers
