Replacing Cam Belt?

My Gti Turbo has done 69000 miles and has full service history but i dont think it has had a cambelt, can anyone tell me when i should think about getting it replaced, its a w reg by the way. Any advice would be great.

Just came across this as I am in a similar situation, I would say now as VW say every 4 years of 40k miles.

If it has any cracks in the belt at all get it done asap and ideally dont drive it or start it at all.

Get your water pump changed at the same time.  Part is £30 or so and shouldn't be any extra labour.  They have a habit of failing right after changing the cam belt which means having to stip it all down again.

When I had my 1.8T I changed it at about your mileage (when I bought it) for my own piece of mind.  Think the book says the service interval is 120k miles for your model (check) but 60k / 5 years is more sensible.

Apparently the 1.8T is 40k miles and the TDI 60k miles for cambelts.

Also be aware the waterpump should be replaced with a water pump with metal fins.

Mine is going in Monday for a Cambelt kit, metal waterpump and oil service. £300  , but at least its all done I guess.

Yikes! 300? I need this done too on my mk2 valver. 
Recommend getting the metal immpeller waterpump as I took the old waterpump with plastic bits off my mates mk3 and it was proper fooked
