Idle Problem - Solved.
« on: 27 November 2009, 15:38 »
Had to take car to mechanics to sort out idle problem. Revs going up and down from 1000 to 2000. Problem 2 spark plugs had gone. However the car is know is idleing at 600 to 800 but making chugging noise - almost like it wants to stall due to low revs

Possible causes please? coil?, CAT?

Had the car diagonosed apparantly its the diverter valve. They are unreliable due to diaphragm design and are prone to failure. There is a new design available which is a new piston type.

This is almost identical to my issues.

There's an OEM later - and supposedly stronger - revision 'D' diverter valve that can be fitted, which is part number 06H145710D. About £45 from a stealer.

Hope you get it all sorted

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?
