fitting speakers

Hi all, I have a mk3  gti 3 dr and only have speakers in the front, 2 x door mount and 2 x dash mount, as you can probably gather this sounds cack and i would like to add some speakers to the back wether it be parcel shelf or mounted in the sides below the rear windows. Can you fit speakers in under the window as i would rather do that than cut holes in the shelf. When the speakers are in i am going to buy an amp to run them and this will be mounted on the underside of parcel shelf im not into loud bass or anything like that as the misses drives it more than me and she wont appreciate quality sound if it jumped up and bit her backside. Basically all i want is a surround sound system without my ears bleeding. Any advice or photos would help . cheers

As far as i know all mk3 gtis came with the 8 speaker set up and should have rear speakers already.  I have only had 5 door mk3s though so i may be wrong.

Any way, i recently replaced my front speakers with Alpine type r components running from the head unit.  Like you, i wanted decent sound without being interested in massive volume or bass.  They do the job perfectly.

As for fitting rears, it should be fairly simple to fit sensibly sized speakers into the sides as there is probably enough clearance between the door and the inner wall.  Best thing is to have a go at getting the trim out and having a look.
