name that part 1.4 mk3

to the right of the dipstick tube (lower down) there is a cylender type part, is it a fuel filter? (100% guess).

Looks like something that should be changed periodically, owned the car 3 years and thought it might be time to change it?

Its not easy to take a picture of, as it sits under a manifold, but the link here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=131854.0  shows a picture of the dipstick tube, follow that down and its to the right of the tube...

no the oil filter is on the front. the cylinder sounds like it could be the block breather?  Or perhaps the oil catch cylinder that is sometimes fitted inline with the block breather pipe. follow the pipes from it, if it pops into the bottom of the airbox then yeah its the breather/catch tank. shouldnt need to touch it unless its blocked, if it was you would see excessive crankcase prtessures and blowing oil out of all the seals. also if you take top hapf of airbox off and run the engine, you should see/feel crank case fumes come out of the pipe.

that's it, breather/catch tank, as it goes to the bottom of the airbox -thanks for the answer

Just wanted to be sure I didnt need to be replacing in any service intervals, as it looked like something that resembled a filter.
