The fact I cant seem to grasp is why it passed unnoticed to National Mileage Register and RAC! Yet a simple search online shows every MOT performed on the car since 20/07/2005 The mileage recorded back then 119,785 Miles.

Yes the 8v clocks only go up to 140mph! I wonder why?
But since even a 16v can only do 135 mph then it dont really matter does it! :smug:

Lee what you need to do is find a set of 16v clocks with a closer mileage on (unlikely) or get a set and have them changed. Best price I found for this was approx £80 so didnt follow it up.
But if you do this and find it cheaper let me know!

I might be wrong but here goes, the NMC and RAC would use records from the DVLA as when you sell the car you fill in the milleage at date of sell, they do not use the VOSA record.

Might seem daft but I was told the same by a friend in the trade.

I only ever filled in the mileage on one car I bought (and Escort), and had that wrong by about 10k :D Never made any difference. It went to scrap just after I got my Golf ;)

whe my bro-in-law was looking for a vr we found one that said it had 90k on the clock, but when we done the online MOT checks, it came back as having done over 200k.

when we told the guy he was in shock as it was all done before he bought it, needless to say we never bought the car.

@Mikester, I'd put any new clocks to the mileage of the car, not engine. The car, chassis etc. has traveled that far..

if it makes you feel any better, my dash board clocks have stopped working, so it's not unheard of to get them changed...
