I dont care what some Jap tw*t says - ya dont need to use yer hand brake to go round corners!
Go on a good track day mate. They will show ya how to get the fastest way round a bend.
If your in the South then ya got Thruxton, Castle Combe or Brands Hatch to choose from.
This is exactly my opinion, unless you are going on a curcuit to enter a drift competition (as I know they do exist) these techniques will be largely useless on both the road and on a track day (The Marshalls will boot you off if you try any of this stuff). They will not improve your on-road driving, and will actually slow you down.
Most of the 'drifters' you speak of drive high powered rwd jap motors (The Nissan 200SX is a firm favourite) and can drift without the use of the handbrake, its done under power. A front will drive car will go sideways (Take it from me?

) but it is not the fastest way round a bend.
One of my favourite tracks is Cadwell Park, up in Lincs - fair enough, it will be a bit of a slog for you getting up there but a day on there will improve your skills no end and you will learn sooooo much. The track is like a mini-Nurburgring, with hills, hairpins, short straights, long straights and fast sweeping corners - everything rolled into one track - it also has a big run off area over most of the track, so if it all goes pear-shped, you don't end up trashing your motor.
Give it a go mate, you won't regret it.
