Power steering - slippery when wet
« on: 31 August 2004, 13:03 »
My power steering was lost at time when we had a night of rain the other day! it worked for have a turn but try and put it on full lock and it was not there, it was fightening against me, does this indicate the belt is slipping? is it easy to tighten up or replace

Thanks

Thanks mate, getting the belt on Friday, also replacing the alternator belt when i am at it!

Is it as simple as just taking the old one off and putting the new one on, any bolts or tensioners I need to be aware of? also is there a certain tension it should be set too?

Thanks

also check the boots on the steering rack, if these are split/absent  the steering can load up because of hydraulic pressure in the toothed bits(water getting trapped in the rack) and make it hard to turn. especially noticeable when going thru puddles!

Got the two belts (power steering and alternator) today from GSF, the guyz said that they were very similar and either belt would fit each other!

Here is what i got:

Bosh AVX 10 x 950 La

Bosh AVX 10 x 940 La

Anyone know which should go on what?

Thanks

Whichever is the larger one will fit on the alternator.

Mind you i got my steering pump belt from Europarts and it was the wrong one. They even checked it against the engine code and still got it wrong. Got the correct one from a local motor factors and it was cheaper.

Thanks

There is not much difference between the two, GSF's system said that either could be used??

Should there be a big difference between the both belts?
