rear tweeter positioning.
« on: 18 May 2009, 12:39 »
hi, i have two sets of alpine s type component sets for my mk4, i have the fronts already installed in the front doors and the tweeters mounted in the usual place.
but what about the rear?. where should i mount the tweeters in the rear?..
1, by the B pillar pointing back towards the rear passengers.
2, by the C pillar pointing forwards towards the front.

the rear mids will be mounted in the factory position so they can be hidden away out of sight..
i really want to go for SQ with this system so every detail matters..
i know i have a cheap amp to run them at the moment but it shall soon be upgrade when the chance comes.
thanks, jamie.

As close to the mids as possible and as high as possible.

if this is a mk4 golf then the factory location is very high in the door and can ruin the soundstage as if not set up correctly you can hear the rear tweeter more than the front as it is so close to your ears
personally i would drop a set of 6.5 coaxials in the standard location and ditch the tweeter

how about just keeping the mid in the rear and doing away with the rear tweeter?.

you can do that but the sound will be very dull
put some coaxial 2 way 6.5's in and it will be fine

if your going for a true SQ system, dont put any speakers in the rear doors.

high quality ( rainbow etc) components up front running off their own 2 channel amp and a good quality sub in the boot running on its own mono amp.

adding comp's in the rear doors will likely muddy the sound and ruin the soundstage.

however, if your aiming for a loud, clear system thats not going to be entered in comps, then just follow what was said above, move the mids lower down and keep the tweeters nice and high. just dont aim them so as the freq will hit each other directly, ie dont point them at each other.

well, this is pretty much exaclty how i have it right now and it sounds almost crystal clear. i could do with a better quality amp (mono) and subs but its o.k for the moment.
i am running alpine S types in the front powwered by a 2ch alpine D class and boss sound crap 10"s in a bandpass box, the amp is also boss sound as my 4ch alpine decided it didnt like to work with other amplifiers.
