if you blow a rod out the back  of the motor and get oil everywhere  yes it'll burn but it'll do that anyway  been there done that.

i've blown loads of CBR600RR motors in sidecars and never seen flames

rodded both sides and still no flames :)

loads of oil on the passinger (which makes holding on harder ) but never any flames even after reving over 16,000RPM for 10 laps of snetterton

but i have wrapped my cars manifold cos of the increased heat and to protect the PAS rack

i've allways found mind steel exhaust to be better than stainless, yes they can and do rust  but not as fast as you'd think  but they much more resistant to cracking :)

exhaust wrap is pritty much allt he same stuff,  stainless steel tie wraps are good for secureing it  did secure some with mig wire  but thatt falls off pritty quick.

as for throwing rods and catching fire,   golfs like doing that basicly as the exhaust is still ultra hot ( glowing bright red style  ) where it runs down and that area also happens to be a perfect flame nest.  the grasstrack car is the same  allways catches fire when the engine blows.   but that poor red top is allways under more boost than you can wave a boost gadge at
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

check with the manufacturer, some specifically recommend that you dont wrap them.
as for lowering the engine, it will prob be enough to drop the driver side a touch, a quick n easy way to do it is to use the mk2 8v style mount with the bolt thru the middle into a bracket bolted to the subframe. what you do is take the subframe mount off and flip it round, then drill a new hole lower down.  Not actually done this myself, but apparently it works fine :)

the proper way of doing it is ceramic coating but that costs just as much as buying the manifold!

whats this spray that protects the heat wrap?
