Steering wheel play

I've got some play in my steering wheel column.
This is only slightly and only up and down.
Before I go ripping off the dash to find the play does anyone know what might cause this.

I noticed this on mine a couple of weeks back.
Turned out the allen bolt that holds the steering lock housing to the column was loose, I tightened it up and it sorted it.
Worth a quick look.

I find the column bearing rarely goes, its usually the plastic bush between the column and bearing or the UJ/rack
