check for a clear vacuum tube near the ignition coil on the bulkhead, it slips inside a braided hose. mine came out of the braided hose and was reading 12mpg  :undecided:

i stuck it back in and straight back up to 35/40 mpg

got the same problem and this sounds dumb but im knew at this and just wanted to ask where the clear vacuum tube be as in wheres the frigging ignition coil  ive had a quick peak under the bonnet and i cant for the love of life think of what im looking for!!!

in the scuttle tray, look where the clutch cable goes through into the cabin and it should be there, it is on mine anyway

Hi
can be difficult to identify the pipe in engine bay - one way is to look up behind dash (remove drivers side under dash shelf) and find fine transparent pipe (goes to centre of clocks sort of behind oil/water/main beam warning lamps)  reach  up behind the dash and wiggle pipe gently back and forward - get someone to watch in engine bay for movement. Dont pull it out from back of clocks - fiddly to get back on (unless you have very long skinny fingers with thick scratch proof skin).

well mine was making a funny whistling noise when this happened as the disconnected pipes were sucking air in... so following my ears led me to the culprit.

to find your ignition coil, follow the spark plug leads to the distributor, then follow the middle distributor lead up to the coil (mounted on the bulkhead, next to the expansion tank).

the little clear tube should disappear inside a black braided pipe close the the coil - it might have come free resulting in crappy MPG readings

I don't think a semi will give the same results

could that vacuum hose that runs the mfa cause an air leak which would make the whistle? because i do actualy hav an air leak just dont know where it is or whats disconnected!!!

When I first bought my Mk2, my MPG was out, but after pulling the dash fuse for a while to fix something else, it seemed to properly reset the MFA and it worked after that.

As said though, its probably your vac pipe.
