ok well as the title says i have no experience with car audio besides from watching my mate change my head unit :huh: anyway my speakers are on the dash and not in the door for some reason dont know if it was an optional extra or something on a mk3 l reg 1.4 golf.

can anyone link me to a website or put a step by step guide to fitting speakers, iv taken my old one out but dont know about conneting the new one back up.

hm, you should have door speakers really, have you looked? are the holes available for them but the holes are empty?

connecting them up is easy, you can't go far wrong.

You know the black pod thing which you took out? this should have 4 wires going to it, or maybe only 2 in your case.

Do you see the wires?

Mk3 golfs tend to have the same door card assembly no mater wot age of mk3 it is. So if you dont alredy have door speakers...then you should certainly have the aperture available to fit speakers in the doors. the dash speakers are merely tweeters if anythin unless otherwise modified.
The grills on the front on the door cards should just clip off...so go have a looky n see whether you have the wires available to plug n play!
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???
