tyre dressing, which one?

A small paintbrush (half inch wide or so) is great for applying tyre gel.

took the words right out my mouth ive used a paint brush for years now as its more economical than spraying it on or applying with a cloth.

been trying out a 50/50 ratio of megs endurence tyre gel and autosmart highstyle and behold...................not even half as much splatter, once dry it stays there

I use espuma RD50 or Autosmart Highstyle, both liguid and apply with a small kitchen sponge. Economical and both dry to a nice matt/brand new tyres look.

I got some tyre paint. Tested it on one of my tyres. It said apply with a brush, so I used an old handbrush. 

Looks quite good actaully. I'm tempted to mask up the wheels on the other Golf and give it ago. It's anceint stuff,  found it in the garage.

I use AG instant tyre dressing.

Just spray it on and leave it. Give the wheels a quick wipe after with some detail spray and that'll clean the overspray off.
