Strange MFA Problem
« on: 17 February 2009, 15:43 »
Hi, bought a sportline recently, enjoying having a MK1 again, but trying to get through a few niggles at the moment.

The MFA seems to be playing up. Firstly there is never any oil temperature displayed just ---- during every trip, even when at full running temperature, so is that likely just a case of changing the oil temp sender on the oil filter housing? Exterior temperature reading works fine.

However the weird problem that i am having is that when i set off on a journey the MFA displays --/-- for Miles driven, average speed, and mpg for at least 40 odd miles then all of a sudden it kicks into life and starts to show figures. a reset from that point on and it all starts to work ok. leave the car over night and it does it again --/-- all the way. Anybody seen this happen or know of a reason/fix?

This is probably unrelated but i did notice my speedo is showing the speed out by 5mph, noticed this on the way home from buying the car as i had the sat nav on as well and they were out of sync. Is this just a new speedo cable needed?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

re the speedo issue i think you,ll find most older cars are out by a similar amount

im sure i have read somewhere on here it is normal amount of 'factory' built in error

aftermarket wheels i.e. larger than originals will also affect speedo reading

as for the mfa i personally wouldnt bother with it i never did use it when i owned gtis back in the early 80s your better off getting vdo guages to monitor oil temp etc
