Custom door pod advice (with pics!)

bought these audioscape style door pods from another member, pics below.

i have finally got round to buying some decent competition grade speakers to replace some crappy SPLX ones which have been fitted until now. problem is, neither set of speakers generate any bass when mounted in the pods, i have checked phase etc and its not that.

i'm assuming the door card is absorbing the bass? do i dynomat the door card behind the speaker? or do i cut a hole in the door card immediately behind the speaker to allow more air to vibrate, and dynomat the inner door skin?

dynamat will help though mids wont really produce much bass at all.. especially in the doors. try dynamat as you mentioned..

any point in doing this though:



i.e. the "skinz" foam behind the speaker? would it be ok to simply leave the old weather-proof sheet in place?

i am not enough in to car audio to know what they achieve... it's certainly right about the door card plastic sheet keeping the rain out! so at it's simplest, chop into door card and keep the plastic sheet between the speaker magnet and the outer door skin.

i have a lot of respect for the time that went into that car! amazing to say the least... and thats before i noticed the car pc

I think you need the volume of space in the door for the speaker to produce bass .
I would sound deaden the door and cut the card and weather proof membraine to access the space in the door .
I think you can get material that is weather proof but allows the air  to pass through to replace the removed membraine.

the foam is for absorbing standing waves from the back of the speaker
