Warm-up valve

Hi folks,

Just obtained a 8v GTI which has an early Mk2/Mk1 K-jet engine. I've noticed that there is a connector and two studs without any wires going to them just adjacent to the left of the oil filter/distributor cap. According to my trusty Haynes manual its the warm-up valve. What exactly does this do and how is my car affected by not having any wires to it?

This valve if its the same one should have a fuel feed from the main fuel injection. Then there should be another fuel line running to the right hand side side of the inlet manifold to the 5th injector. The 5th injector should get fuel from the warm up valve to richen up the fuel mix when the engine is cold. You will prop have trouble starting from cold and maybe not idling too well from cold either. The cold start doesnt work on mine. Its full throttle starts and then have to try and keep it idling till it warms up a bit. Hope this is of some help.

Aye it requires a pump of the accelerator to get it to start usually, and idles lumpily from cold. That aside is there any other drawbacks of running the car without this?

As far as i known none. Been running mine for a while with no probs.

all it does is bring the wur off choke a bit quicker, its just a heater feed.  Gets 12v from the fuel pump feed, I doubt you would really notice much as it gets warmed up by engine heat anyway!  Main thing is to find those wires if possible, if they earth out somewhere it'll blow the fuel pump fuse which may happen at a most inconvenient time  :grin:
