you dont need VAGCOM, I fitted my RNS 510 myself, took about an hour, no probs whatsoever.

When you take the top bit off you disconnect the airbag sensor which generates a fault and needs to clearing on VAGCOM . . . . ? Thats happened with me anyway.

I've been told in prep of fitting my rns-510 to make sure i do not disconnect the airbag sensor so i presume it can all be done without this issue

Gents

Regardless of whether you do or don't unplug the connector and generate an airbag fault the RNS510 will still need to be coded to match the car and unless you already had SatNav in the car then the CAN Gateway must also be coded.

Before there are screams of 'I've fitted mine and it works ok', well that may be so but you will have fault codes stored.

If you had a nice Techy he may have sorted it for you.

It will work ok but as I said if it isn't coded correctly you will have fault codes.  As an example if you'd bought a used eBay unit which had previously fitted to a car with the Audio pack you'd find you had no sound from the speakers until it was sorted out.
