Spark plugs for mk5 GTi

Has anyone replaced these?, and does anyone know roughly how much these are?

Mines due in for service in 2 weeks time, and its done 23-24k miles.Do they normally replace them on this service or is it worth getting them

to replace them if they are cheap enough.I know its normally brake fluid change aswell on a 2 year service.

Don't they use platinum tipped ones good for 60k now?

is it easy to replace the plugs or have you gota strip half the top of the engine to get to them??

It's not really difficult!

Provided you manage to remove the engine cover in one piece :wink: then you should be able to remove the coil packs without too much difficulty to get to the plugs.

Is there any benefit replacing them after 24k when to me a spark plug used to be changed annually. Are they made of some super strong

plating??. Is it not worth doing untill 60k?

RedRobin had a misfire problem or something similiar with his car around 40k miles that was eventually diagnosed as bad plugs. He now intends to change his at 20k.

fwiw I change mine at every yearly service interval and I'm a low milage driver.

....On JKM's advice, a remapped car is more likely to benefit from more frequent plug changes. Also, their advice was that the GTI's stock plugs were totally adequate.

The misfire was diagnosed and solved very quickly (not "eventually") thanks to JKM, and I will now change every 20k miles as preventative maintenance.

If changed regularly, this helps avoid them being seized in the hole.
Dead easy to change. Should take about 40mins. Need a long reach narrow socket with a rubber holder in the end which hooks onto the end the plug to help pull them out when slack.

Not having proper spark plug socket. I used a std long reach box spanner and a long reach grabber device. Worked just a treat.
Bought plugs from GSF.
