Snapped Throttle screw

Hi all firstly may i thank you all for your posts on my 57i kit what a joke they are im now changed it to a standard box but am still having a few wee problems.


i have done a full service thats plugs leads dizzy cap rota arm oil filter air filter oil etc.

i am now trying to get my car to idle on 1000,i have checked the isv switch and all working fine,so i decided to losen the 8mm nut and unscrew the throttle screw but its snapped if i get one of a mk3 golf or a passat will that dpo as there isnt any gti'sin my local scrappy?

this morning i have noticed that it has a wee wee mis-fire and am wondering if that could be my problem but sure;y that wouldnt make my needle fluctuate.

If you've got a miss-fire I would sort that out first as it might cure the idle problem. If not then you can look into sorting out the idle problem afterwards, as its a less serious problem vs a miss-fire.

There are loads of threads that can help you with both problems, so use the search function and sit down with a cup of tea for a good couple of hours of research!


To start you off...

MISS-FIRE
 - Plugs
 - Leads
 - Rotor arm
 - Dizzy cap or dizzy itself
 - Coil

IDLE
 - Air leak
 - The ISV needs cleaning
 - The idle/CO settings needs re-setting
 - Clean all breathers and air intakes


Ad infinitum...

thats more a 16v thing.   

misfire are normaly a plug related issue

just a quick recap for you all today i have now replaced all the vacum hoses and also cleaned all pies etc,i have now set the idle to 950ish carnt do any better but i must say it runs,sound and feels alot better.


just a quickie i have looked at the air flow meter which is situated above the rocker cover on a big rubber holder how can i tell if i have the right one on ie what the difference between a 1.8 and 2 litre module.


Plus would somebody be most kind and upload me a picture of a isv switch please as im getting mixed up which one its supposed to be.

the thing your on about is the idle speed control valve 

the air flow meter it in the airbox i think

idle control valve is in front of the inlet manifold and is fed from a pipe that comes from the ufo on the rocker cover
