Which headunit adaptor?
« on: 27 September 2008, 21:32 »
If I want to install a headunit using an adaptor for the wires instead of wiring it myself, would one of these be correct for the mk5? I don't have a multifucntion steering wheel or any other external stuff to control a headunit.

Last time I wired it myself but it was a pain and pretty slow and I don't feel like doing it again .

These will work but won't give switched live etc.

I would recommend the CAN BUS adapters as these are true plug and play, like this one http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8115.html

If you dont want to do any wireing yourself then you need the CAN BUS as Steve pointed out. If not pop into any Car Audio shop and they will have a simple adaptor for about £10.

Steve, thats a mighty impressive price you have found for the that adaptor.

Thanks for the link Steve . Just a case of plugging the VW connector to one side and the headunit connector to the other?

Yep this will provide the ISO connectors your aftermarket headunit will come fitted with , the only thing to check is if this one includes the aerial adapter as well as the VW OEM headunits also use a different type of of aerial connector, if not then you will also need one of these: -
