Looking at this myself, is there a noticable difference from the 288mm on my GTi to the 312mm upgrade, or would better pads and drilled disc stop as good as the 312mm ??

Cheers

I wouldn't bother with drilled/grooved discs in any size.  They're very expensive, more prone to cracking & wear pads out twice as quick!!

Pads on the other hand, is a different matter.  Spend £100-120 on some Ferodo DS2500's (or Mintex equivalent) for your 288's & you'll probably have more stopping power than 312's on crap pads.  (Obvoiusly those pads with the 312's would be immense).

The 312's definitely stop you quicker, but make the rear quite 'light' under heavy braking - You get used to it, though.
