if its easier to fit a 8v i might do that, i dont want too much work.

i think im going to go for the 2ltr 16v, would i need a later fuse box for the golf, (ie, a 1990 onwards one) to make a mk3 golf engine fit propperly?

2.0 16v's from a MK3 Golf are 150bhp, from a Corrado 2.0 16v is 136bhp.

The cheapest and easiest option and also if you dont want to much work is a bottom end from a Golf MK3 GTI 8v, Passat 2.0 8v, Audi 80 2.0.  You will get more torque from these engines and with the help of a s/s exhaust and cam will let loose even more horses

In which application do you mean?

If you mean for the 2.0 8v, you use the 2.0 bottom end from the mk3 and the head from the mk2. Just bolts straight on

Edit:

what top end should go with them bottom ends?

Sorry, having re-read that it makes more sense than i first thought!  I take it you are referring to:

You can't just straight swap for the CE2 fusbox either. It pretty much involves re-wiring most of your car!
I'd go for the 2E from the Golf purely as its easier to get hold of than the Audi one and has a longer stroke iirc

I have a better idea, buy my golf mk2 that has a bent chassis and take the 1.9 8v Big bore with fast road CAM, kent pully, piper cross, air filter which is also chipped. Goes off the clock at 120mph and keeps going. With only 10,000 miles on it. I did this once and was to scared to do it again!

Built and installed by these guys www.theengineshop.info

I drove the car into a post, shame as the body work is fine, the car is in my garage and I turn it over about every two weeks. It still drives but is sorn at present. I wouldn't recommed driving it though. I was going to keep the car but have brought a MK4 golt GTI and got in to cycling so need the money for a new racing bike. The engine cost £1300 new so I would be looking at £600 for the whole car. Which if you had time you could break and make some money back, i'm to lazy! The car is near orpington in kent. Drop me a mail if your intrested warrenpholton@aol.com.

If not I'll keep it for a project.

P.S I have building work going on so won't be able to get pictures of the car for about 3 weeks. I could get some off the engine this weekend and mail them. let me know.
I crashed mine, but another will be coming soon....
