clutch/gearbox noise help please
« on: 06 April 2008, 15:08 »
my car makes a groaning noise when changing up the gears, only for about a second though. It also only happens under full throttle a t high revs 5,000 rpm or higher, is a little worrying though. The gearbox is great, no crunching at all or whining, and the clutch has done less than 1000 miles, all gearchanges are very smooth and nice, its annoying because its putting me off booting it, if i change up a gear below 5,000rpm it dosent do it. Sounds like its coming from the engine bay, definitely not the gearbox. car pulls like a train still. Any ideas on what this could be would be most appreciated, thankyou very much.

i cant notice any difference in performance, still seems to go great, could this be a mounting then cos it dosent make any noise when not under full throttle, you dont think its anything serious then?

am sure someone told me recently that some VW engines were limited to 5000rpm when the car is in neutral... not sure if this is just newer models (pretty sure the guy who told me is my mate who drives a Mk5) or if its been on the go for years

Sounds like your clutch slipping, depending on what you mean by groaning.

I agree with it being the clutch and probable a spring or two in plate, be ready for it giving up the ghost
