I did the student gumball rally in 2006 and planned to go this year but i cant get a team together as students dont have money!! I did, Sheffield - Dover, Dover - Cologne, Cologne - Prague, Prague - Zagreb, Zagreb - Zadar (south Crotia) It was amazing! although it was in a ford mondeo

My advice is, if your travelling through different countries some places require by law different things e.g. i think in Belgium or maybe holland you need a full set of bulbs to replace any lights that go out!!

The AA has a pretty comprehensive guide.

Good luck!!

Dan

Best advice when travelling abroad in an old car is to simply not push too hard - try to only wind it up to 7/10ths - keep some in reserve.  If you're planning on going to the 'ring make it one of the last stops - if it's at the front of your trip it could be a bloody expensive and short trip!

If it's your last stop then it doesn't matter if the car spits it's dummy.  Being the 'ring it will still matter if you lose it and have a swipe at the scenery.

Fave roads on my radar in the UK include the B3081 from Shaftesbury, over Cranbourne Chase and down to Verwood.

Now that's a driver's road.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

There's very much a place in my heart for A417 from Gloucester to Leominster, too.  This leads up to the A49 which can be quite fun outside of caravan season.

Tewkesbury to Warwick on the A46 is a good laugh in something with a good deal of power, especially if you have the kahunas for 3-lane A-roads.

Got a rare weekend away coming up, so a few of the boys are off to play in North Wales.
Can't wait to get up a mountain again (it's been ages) but I'm just as excited about a proper good drive in the Golf - 3+ hours all up the A5, getting narrower & more winding all the way.
Anyone else done a good drive lately - or got one coming up?
If your comming up to my neck of the woods you have to let me know. The A5 through Corwen and Bala is a great drive. Stop off at Bala lake for refreshments then on to Porthmadog and Harlech by the sea.
Really good stretch of road that mustn't be missed
