TDI With Anniversary Alloys - What PSI & Fuel consumption..

Hi Guys

Have recently fitted 18" Anniversary alloys to my Golf TDI. I am currently running at 30PSI all round, is this correct or can anyone recommend a PSI?

Also since i have fitted the alloys the MPG seems to have dropped, is this me just imagining things or could the alloys effect this?

Any advice welcome, cheers in advance guys!

with my 16's i run 34 front and 32 rear so i'd up the PSI a little bit mate

and yeah fitting bigger alloys will affect the MPG  especially with your tyres under-inflated

saw your post a few days ago about your TDI but which model did you buy?? 115, 130 or 150?

Its a 115... Hoping to chip is asap..

When i first got the car i could get it to do about 48-50 MPG.. Now im stuggling to do 46 at 70MPG.. i really didnt think the wheels would make a difference. I thought the larger the wheel the less work the engine has to do to cover a greater distance. the smaller the wheel means more work and higher revs... NO?

from what i know when you put bigger rims on you then use lower profile tires so the wheel is actually about the same diameter but wider like 225 or whatever you've gone with so it actually takes more effort from the engine to turn the wheels, having them at the right pressure will help but wider tires will make more work for the engine so mpg will go down a little

Check out this handy little tool for making sure your new overall wheel and tyre size is the same as orig.

This way, as Phil.O says, the overall wheel size hasn't changed.  But, I would imagine, the tyres being wider will have a negative effect on MPG.

P.S. Where the hell did you manage to find a set of anni wheels?  Been looking for a set for ages

Thats the same wheels I'm running and I use 34 on the front and 33 on the back.

Spydoor mine came with the car but if you look on ebay or pistonheads.co.uk you may find a set.

Hey...

I am getting about 43-44 to the gallon at the mo.. which is about 460-470 to the tank and i am running 18" BBS Anniversary alloys..

Let me know what others are getting please.

i get at least 500 from a tank, normally get between 520-550 running on the standard 16" 's any mainly on cruise control.
