If you do get your carb set up make sure the place you take it to know about you model of carb and have replacement jets and gaskets so there?s no messing around. You could change to a different carb to get more power and adjustability, I don't really know a lot about them as I've only just bought my first a set of twin Webber 40's to go on my MK1. There are several going on Ebay at the moment but you will need to buy/make an intake manifold to suit your head which isn?t as hard as it sounds (I will have a pattern for one soon). You will need to get a good air flow to them as well as I guess you have a counter flow head, your linkages will need changing to. I think this will be a fairly cheap way to get a good power increase if you can get the carbs cheap. Have you swapped your cam to a GTi one as this will give you more valve lift and help improve your air flow to match the increase in fuel you will get from a set of twin carbs.I think the cams will only work if you have one of the larger CL engines but I?m not sure as I?ve never done it but I would have thought someone on here would know about this mod. Hope that gives you something to think about and have a look on the web for more carb info. The web site I mentioned earlier has something about jet set up?s and links to other web sites about carbs.
