Well after 6 long months the wheel issue is sorted, 1 being replaced by VW as goodwill, and 3 by the supplying dealer. The saga took a strange twist when VW rejected 3 wheels, as they had been 'refurbished'. I pointed out that when I purchased the car at 12 months, they all looked perfect and I had not had them refurbed, after 18 months the corrosion was advanced, too cut a very long story short, the supplying dealer confirmed that 3 wheels had corrosion at time of part ex and they had a local company refurb them, so VW promptly rejected my claim as the wheels were repaired by a non-approved agent.
At this point I was feeling pretty low, until I re read the Approved Used Car booklet, and it clearly states all repair/rectification work will be carried out by VW techs using genuine VW parts, on stating this to the selling dealer and suggesting to him that I would be claiming full refund of car purchase price due to mis-representation of goods at time of sale in court, as i could not take benefit of the VW 3 year warranty, a very quick offer to replace the 3 wheels was made!!
Also got great support from VW Cust Service ( I know not everyone gets great service from them), but even they knew the dealer did not have a leg to stand on, and definately leaned on him.
So 4 new wheels, all fitted with Pilot Sport 2's (tyres at my cost) and new centre caps thrown in,
restores your faith in humanity (and VW Cust Service)
