I suppose it's only normal to be concerned about the long term reliablity with something as high tech as the DSG, i'm sure VW have done huge amounts of testing on it but there is still the possibilty for problems to develop 4-5 years down the line with 80-90k+ and countless launches. That said i wouldn't say this has had much influence on my decision up till now, i know the DSG is highly regarded as being the best semi-automatic gearbox out there and everyone who's got one says once you've tried it you wouldn't go back to a manual but i think i would ultimately miss the involvement of a manual. I dont doubt it's would be very nice when stuck in traffic or sitting on a motorway etc but i cant help think i would start getting lazy with it and just put it in D and forget about it.

The dealer seemed pretty sure i wouldnt see it before the 1st of March and in any case if i turned up at the end of Feb i'd be happy to wait another week or two and get an 08 reg. Plus the longer it takes to arrive the less finance ill need

I use a mix of paddles and D. Stuck in traffic leave it in D. If you wanna go for a back road blast use the paddles or even the stick shift.

The only thing that could be improved is that the (gear) numbers on the display could be bigger.
