mine does kind of squeak especially when parking but it ain't the end of the world................although bmw's don't do this whatsoever............so i think ultimately you get what ya pay for

i got a parrot thingy for bluetooth which is okay but i want to know if anyone actually has a cradle to go with the phone prep

i think vw did not think this through one bit! they think vw drivers don't have phones or speak on their phones as they'll be too busy driving quickly!!! muppets!!!!

I'm already pushing it thinking about a brand new GTi yet alone an R32

I can handle the odd wee clunk or rattle but for it to really bother me it would need to be something that could be heard easily over the radio at a normal level ie still able to talk to someone in the car.

I spoke to this guy about the parrot kit, he did say it was about the best of the aftermarket stand alone blue-tooth kits but given the choice ie if i was buying a new car he suggested it would be better to just bite the bullet and get the Kenwood DNX7200 on the previous page, does everything any of the std kit can do plus more and it's all in one unit.

He also said that a lot of the factory blue-tooth kits weren't all that great anyway so it's not as though it's a big deal, the fact its not got anything to begin with is a good reason to put an aftermarket unit in it.

Hi kenny.s, If your going for an aftermarket unit then go for standard hi-fi option. I really like the MFSW (old gti didn't have it), just nice having the controls at hand IMO. I find the Kenwood a great piece of kit, the sat-nav is spot on, I love the display and everything just seems to work, it also sounds pretty good

If you try the R32, put some ear-plugs in, the sound of it will make you want one  You wont need a Hi-Fi upgrade then

Both great cars.

Golf GTi Edition30 DSG and a few Hi-Fi mods!

Ah well looks like i wont be trying the R32 afterall, took a wander along this morning to have a nosey and it turns out they sold it at the weekend
Spoke to another dealer in Glasgow (or should that be stealer as many seem to call them on here lol) who's going to try and arrange a test drive in a DSG Gti on Friday if not he can definately get hold of a manual one.

Apparently there's about a 3 month wait on a GTi just now but that could work out quite nicely for me, once i've put the initial deposit down to actually order the car it gives me some time to save and take less on finance, if i can force my self to hold off long enough i might even be able to buy it

I was seriously impressed by the GTi test drive. I loved the sharp handling and steering, the effortless power and the great seats. A few months of ownership and I'm still enjoying these attributes. Slightly dissapointing is the overall build quality (rattles, some low grade plastic in cabin, paint quality, Farah seat material ) I would say in this respect it's on par with GM, Ford, Honda etc but nothing more.

No car is perfect though and the GTi is a very appealing car, but considering the less than fantastic build quality, should really be 2-3K less money.

all three are great cars (gti, ed30 and r32) and all bargains for what they do

the power aside from the bhp differential just comes from slightly different places

good luck with the purchase

it took me a long time to buy my car and i can't complain

i am haemorraging money for the fuel compared to my old car but i don't drive that much and what with carbon footprint, i think we'll all be forced into the blue motion one day!!!!

Went for a test drive yesterday and i can now see why your all grinning from ear to ear
I didnt really get a chance to stretch it's legs, mostly round the outskirts of Glasgow but it was enough to know that it's a very, very nice car.
The one i drove was a manual and i really liked it, so much smoother than anything i've been used to. I'd still like to get a shot in a DSG but to be honest i think i might be happier in the long run with a manual. i know the DSG has it's advantages and it makes the car marginally quicker but i think i would miss the involvement of a manual.

The salesman also said that to gaurantee delivery for an 08 reg orders have to be in by the 15th of November? I said i wasn't particularly bothered about having it for the first week in March, if anything i'd rather wait till the mad rush had passed. But he said if i ordered after the 15th it could be into April/May before i got it?
Probably going to go down to my local dealer today and have a chat, no point buying a car from a dealer 30 miles away when there's one i can walk to. I feel a purchase is imminent

Went into the local dealer on Saturday and had a chat, turns out the salesman i was talking to knows my old man, need to see if i can get some freebies. I never realised this until i spoke to him but due to the huge waiting list all your really doing when you place an order is booking a place in the production line, so right up until about 2-3 weeks before the car is due to be built you can change just about anything you like. This made things a bit easier for me as it gives me loads of time to get a shot in a dsg and decide if i prefer it to the manual. Just now they recon i should get it in time for the new 08 reg but wont know for sure until they've put the order in and had word back from VW.
For now i've gone for a Diamond Black 3dr, Manual, 18" Monzas, Bi-xenons, highline, arm rest, cruise control and the electric folding mirror option.
It's going to be a long 5 months

My father has a 2006 GTi DSG - gearbox broke after 1 month when a sensor failed.  Took ages to get the sensor replaced.  Makes you wonder how reliable the DSG box will be in a few years, especially when the warranty runs out....

Was also told by the dealer that a complete replacement DSG box is horrendously expensive.

DSG a great gearbox, and DSG car is faster through the gears vs the manual, but good idea to stick with the manual longterm I think.

I ordered my ED30 last November and it arrived the last week of Feb. Still enjoy the car Soooooooo much I always grin.
