Ok so after reading all the bits about 6x9 with a sub, I tried to think of an alternative. I asked the question on here, whether putting the 6x9s on separate triangular shelves against the seat and parcel shelf holders with no parcel shelf would make any difference to the sound but was told the only way to really go about it was to separate the air that the 6x9s use and the air that the sub uses. So I thought up a speaker box build that I could put 6x9s and amp in (hidden) but one that didn't take up all the boot!
And heres my picture diary.......
First step was to measure out the top and bottom and cut out the holes for the 6x9

Then I cut out the front and stuck it to the top

Then I glued the back on, I didnt it all in one sheet because the lower back would have the amp attatched and I initially wanted it to be straighter than the front

Then I glued the sides and bottom to the speaker enclosure....still needs trimming down at this point!

This is how it looks at this point in the boot
And yes my number plate had fallen off...It's not that I carry spaires!

Next I cut the door out and attatched the hinges. I wanted these to be flat as poss so that when i cover it with carpet they wont bulge out. This is why I didn't use normal house door hinges. Had a few problems cutting it out at the 30 deg. angle because the blade kept hitting the speaker enclosure...Hence the filled holes!

For the amp I decided to attatched it to a back plate that would be the same height but wider so that I would have more width to fix it to the back of the box. Decided to attatch it to the back of the box with some big chunky bolts and glue the nuts onto the back of the box to hold everything in place.

This is it all attatched to the back of the box (yet to be glued on) with the chunky bolts

This is how the box looks in the car with no door!

Because the box is at an angle and the hinges are at the bottom the door doesn't stay closed so I needed some latches to keep it closed while I'm driving about. At this point the back and base of the box had been glued on so it was pretty much done!

So this is it in the car..no speakers yet though!

The inside

And this is the inside all wired up...messy I know but I just wanted some decent sound back!

This it from the back. You can see the 4 nuts that help hold the amp in. I drilled the back sligtly so that when I glued them on they would sit in rather that just be stuck on.

And this is it all done, in and wired up!

But of course it still needs finishing off. It needs to be covered in matching carpet which will hide all the gaps, bodge jobs and glue! Oh and the hinges. Once covered I will re-attatch the catches and a smart looking handle so they will be the only thing you will be able see when all closed up. I need to run the power cable down the other side of the vehicle after reading a post on that (really should do all your homework before starting!) and need to tidy up all the wires inside. And finally I need to fill that other wheel arch well with another sub to make it all symetrical!
And the sound is great...prob not perfect but I can't tell!
Thanks for looking
