banging exhaust
« on: 23 August 2007, 11:10 »
when i get a couple of people in the back of my car, i get a load banging noise. i think i have worked out that it is the exhaust banging on the rear axel. i am hoping to lower the car 60mm soon and and worried that this noise will be there constantly    any ideas?

oh btw its a driver, so 20mm higher than the gti (if im right in thinking) so i thought it wouldnt have been a problem

you will need to move the exhaust....and try new mounts as these wear and rarely get replcaed. mine banged on the back axle and when i lowered it i had the exhaust remounted and hey presto...no more bang

It's a job you can do at home but I allways find my local exhaust place can do much better for about £10... and all mounts are the same more or less (arvin/timax or bosal are 2 names that spring to mind) unless you want poly one's which are ideal for heavy stainless exhausts

Take a peak at my thread for my fix, i managed to butcher some van mounts, and then weld it onto my exhaust to get a super solid fixture.
