Mk2 16v, which suspension?

I've decided to get some suspension on my valver, not too much of a drop and don't want coilovers.

Thinking about Boge turbo's with eibach 20 or 40mm springs and new top mounts.

I've heard a few people recommending H&R springs over eibachs.

Are Boge turbo's a good shock or is there an alternative.

Looking to spend no more than £300 for the parts really.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Have heard H&R are good, but no direct experience.

For you budget I think Boge Gas is your best bet.

see if you can get some 2nd hand koni top adjustable shocks + eibach springs, they are the next best thing to coilovers imo!

Ok cool, was probably going to get them from GSF but makes no difference really.

Is it worth getting G60 top mounts over standard ones, same price.

Seen a few people use them lately.

Might give the H&R springs a go, a mate of mine had them on his mk2 and said they were good quality and decent ride.

Anything else i need to replace while i'm at it?

Just put those sachs gas on mine.  Really pleased with them.  They come with a new top nut but not new strut to hub carrier nuts.  The rear shocks for the 8v come with top nut, washer for top of bump stop and new circlips.  I would presume the 16v is the same.

I went for standard VW springs but if I had lowered I would have gone with eibach  :smiley:

G60 top mounts are allegedy stronger.

While you are there, check the condition of the bump stops and the strut sleeve/cover.

When you have finished, wait a week, then get the alignment setup.

sorry to hijack but while were talking top mounts, is a sign that they're knackered a sort of rubbery groaning noise when turning the steering wheel?
I've lubed all the joints in the steering column but it still does it when the cars warmed up which leads me to think its engine bay related.

Top mounts tend to have play in them when knackered.  Give each wheel a good shake and see what you can discover.  My guess would be ball joint(s) somewhere  :smiley:
