help with a amp
« on: 20 July 2007, 18:41 »
right after weeks of thinking  " active or a amp n sub"  i finaly went for a amp n sub.
i shopped round the net and with all the advice i had picked up off people from on here i went for a 12" sub(pioneer in a box) and a 2 channel amp (crunch ?) with a wirering kit
today it all turned up and thanks to the crap weather and me not haveing a garage i didnt get a chance to TRY an fit it.
this is what im planning to do. (if im wrong could you please put me straight)
live from the battery into the car via the hole behind the glove box ( found that out today on here thanks)
pre outs from the head unit to the amp ( do i only conect 1 part of the pre out via a y conector as im only amping a single sub)
earth to somewhere in the spare wheel well
then just the sub to the amp
now for some more help
where can i run the cables to the back? i was going to run them under the carpet along the gear box hand break. cut the carpet then with carpet glue stick it back down
fixing the sub box down ive got a bungey strap thing (going to see if i can find sum velcro another tip i got of here)
and finaly fixing the amp down the only thing i can think of is screw it to the parcel shelf or screw it on top of the sub box?

any help will be greatfully excepted thanks
so if you hear a big bang in northamptoshire sometime tommorow dont worry its just me putting the cables in wrong

Almost right just got a few suggestions for you.
First run the power and sound cables down seperate sides of the car, so power down passenger side, the phonos down the drivers.
Run the cabling under the sill trims just inside the doors, loads of room under there, plus they just unscrew/pull off depending which golf you have. This avoids any sound interference, like buzzing with the alternator.

Run the amp turn on signal wire with the power cable from the back of the HU.

The phonos need connecting in pairs, so red white to the sub out on your HU.
Then red white to the amp. Subs are wired in stereo even though they are a mono speaker.
Then earth it to a good point, body work where there is an existing earth/screw/bolt is best. Clean any paint around the earth point with a little wet and dry paper.
Use stick on velcro to hold it down, the mofo wont move then.

oh yeah, screw amp to top of box, they cant be put in upside down, they overheat, heat rises so the heatsink doesnt do its job.
