Loss of Power to Gamma HU
« on: 09 July 2007, 23:04 »
Hi all,

I'm tearing my hair out with this one now!, was driving to work the other day and the head unit just died...total loss of power!

Have had it out and checked all cables, fuse and the back, fuse in the main box and all is good.

i've even bought another Gamma headunit off ebay but this dont work either! so its defo something from the wiring loom back to the battery. before I rip the dash to shreds is there anything logical i'm missing out? someother fuse? a relay? anything!

help!

also if this helps I have a Nokia handsfree kit that still have power going to it, and the cigerette lighter and all ther electrics are fine.

Do you have/know how to use a multimeter? Makes diagnosing faults so much easier if you check if you've got volts where you should have. What car is it in? Maybe some kind of weird anti-theft thing linked in with the alarm if it's a relatively new car (don't know if new Veedubs have anything like that, just a guess).

i'd take it to a car audio specialist or auto electrician before going to VW; surely their labour rates are going to be cheaper  :undecided:
