mk2`s are great fun but if im honest theyre just not fast and the interiors in them are seriously outdated, suppose it depends what you want from the car. im about to uprgrade to a mk3 so time will tell what i think about them :)
Mk2's are not fast? i guess it's relative to what you compare them to.
But if you're thinking of chopping in a mk2 to buy a mk3, i think you may be dissapointed?
As for interiors, they do look a bit old. But again i think that part of the charm of the car! i like the angular dash as i think it suits the lines of the car

well ive had boththe 8v and the 16v mk2`s and they just arent quick and to be honest dont feel quick. the mk3 16v i drove was a lot better and far more responsive and was much nicer inside. if you look at a lot of thehot hatches from the same sort of time the interiors are mostly better than the golfs. i think the cars a re a lot of fun but other than handling well, they have been over rated as a reasoanbly quick car. styling wise though the exteriors do look sexy :)

ah but surely being that an opinion on what is nice to look at is all relative to the individuals taste?
i agree that the mk3 dash is a nicer unit (based on the corrado's) but when it comes to performance and 'driveabilty' i believe the mk2 is by far the drivers choice, especially in 16v guise (standard anyway). given that the mk3 was heavier and handling notably more 'boat' like when compared to the lighter, stiffer mk2, i can't see that the mk3 would be in any situation quicker? but if you prefer the looks of the mk3? then i guess that would be a reason to swap... but i don't see it myself

Mk2 VR with a mk3 dash? Hahaha.
Sorry.
As you're young and insurance is a problem, I'd have to say a mk3 2ltr 16v. More BHP per £...?
Mk2's look the best though, all except Len's... ;)

I cant say ive noticed"loads" of mk3 16v about, I thought they were rare? :undecided:
id rather have the mk3, a lot better ride refinemnt and brakes, so wont be as fun raw driver orientated car but you always have compromises in life,i prefer the mk2 in that was fun better driving experience, but would have the mk3 dont feel as fast as more refined
