yeah, ive got DAB in my car, Have you got a link to your headunit because that will decide what you need.

sometimes its just an arial
( ive been quoted 40 quid direct from sony for mine as I left the old arial in my old car when i sold it, what a fool)

but its more likely you need the reciever as well, im pretty sure they are quiet pricey, sometimes  the same cost as the HU itself. who told you they were a tenner off ebay?

Well before my car went in for the conversion I had this:

KD-LHX501 EXAD head unit

now I bought this (proper cheap - but still have the jvc too):

(im not actually sure that ripspeed one has dab)

It is recommended to use DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) tuner KT-DB1500 or
KT-DB1000 with this unit. If you have another DAB tuner, consult your JVC IN-CAR
ENTERTAINMENT dealer.
• Refer also to the Instructions supplied with your DAB tuner.

that was taken straight from page 51 of your JVC manual, if you havnt got it...

so it seems you can get other tuners and this is what you need to add on by the sound of it. your HU like many others is a DAB controller, so not complete. its a similar principle to HU's with cd changer control, in the way something needs to be added on for it to function.

the most impostant thing to get right will be the connector.

The Ripspeed unit is definately not DAB. It could technically take an input off one as it's got aux in, but obviously you'll have no control - it'd just be like plugging an mp3 player/dvd/etc in.
There's no DAB adaptor box available for it either.
