The story so far...

- Sold my old sub assembly previously custom made for a Polo i had to a mate who's just got a Polo (i'll get a pic of it in place before I take it out). He's having his first driving lesson today so i've got a while to sort it out :)

- Bought a new Stealthboxz from eBay from the manufacturer for 111 quid, they're normally 190 on their site

- Bought a new sub and amp off eBay in a bargain package deal. Infinity Perfect10 VQ Sub, Infinity Reference Series 7521a Amp.

- Box is quoted on the site as 170mm deep, sub is quoted as 165mm deep. Box appears to be 162mm deep from my measuring.

- Plans are to mount the amp on the opposite side wheelarch slightly sunk

and now the news for today..

- Worries about whether the sub will fit.. it only drops in when rotated in certain directions due to the slope for the wheel arch and the back of the sub.. not really a problem.. Still not decided if it may need a spacer ring, very close cut thing. Its possible with the sealing tape round the edges etc it'll be ok.. Its probably gonna be safer to get a ring

All the bits are finally here

ok decided it definitely needs a space ring of about 5mm (most are much thicker.. boo)... so i've ordered one from autoacoustics (ebay was more..)

plan to spray it black before fixing to box

and decided to go for a plexiglass "infinity" branded grill from them to go over the sub at the same time..
since either i/or the site f**ked up whilst ordered i had to call as i wanted an etched grill but the receipt didnt say that..

whilst on the phone the guy offered me some extra matching box carpet to use with the ring.. sweet :)

probably wont be much progress now for another week or so..

me either!

no actual work done since the last posts.. but the rest of the parts are now here..

- 10m of velcro for the amp mounting
- 10" stepper ring to make the sub fit :( ..(had to buy two)
- etched flexiglass grille

didnt come with the box carpet he promised, but i've got some anyways

so i've got all the bits now...

i'm leaving/keeping them at work until i'm fitting stuff so it doesnt clutter up home (plus i have building keys so if necessary on a w/e i can get the bits.. although knowing me i'm likely to just take a few days off to sort it all out)

the plexiglass ring and spacer rings came ona  piece of hardboard. so i'm going to mark out the amp dimensions on that.. take it home.. and when have the time will make a cardboard template

still no work done since the last posts..

however my headunit has pretty much packed up... so i had to buy a new one last night..
bought one that'll take a take a usb stick too :)  -> clarion DXZ778RUSB...
i had an older clarion one that'd play mp3 cd's too.. loved it.. even though it died after 3.5 years

will be sorting out the headunit first, and the subs shortly after.. probably have to take some time off as theres a new girly in me life and times short

gearbox is getting looked at tomorrow too..

Todays progress

Fitted the new Clarion DXZ778RUSB. Initially put the USB port in the passenger footwell using velcro.

Did a little job while i was in the area, which was to put right the light pipes for the central console.. in putting it back together probably two years ago (lol).. I think i'd inverted the initial spreader thingy.. wont be able to tell till its dark... found what looks like the remains of a previous multi changer behind there too.. some RCAs and some kind of bus connector

tip.. with this out.. its easier to tidy the cables behind the headunit.

and.. also repositioned the USB port from the headunit to the drivers footwell. sweet :)

Also carpetted out the drivers side door pocket as i put stuff that rattles in there sometimes..

as far as the StealthBoxz goes.. nothing done on the amp front outside buying some hardboard.

but have sprayed one of the step up rings which is currently drying in the garage..  and am now using the other step up ring (had to buy 2 but needed 1..).. as a template to peel back the box cloth on the stealthboxz itself.. looks like after i've done that i'll need to remove the glue thats on there somehow.. also bought some glue today to fix the ring to the stealthboxz

£111 for a box alone sounds a bit steep - is it the right size for the sub?  That's the most important bit.

The amp should be OK, as it looks suspiciously like a re-badged JBL 75.2

the boxes are normally 200 quid... 111 was a bargain.. otherwise i wouldnt have done it.. you did notice its a custom fit box yeah?

the sub size doesnt matter.. its a VQ sub and has inserts to adjust to different boxes.. but yeah the sub is fine for the box...

the problem with the box was the depth.. which is why i'm painting up a spacer ring :)

been loving the new headunit tonight :)
