im near enough sure the 1.3 has solid front disks whereas the 8v GTI has vented, but they are both 239mm

so u would need GTI Calipers & Gti Disks & GTI pads.

it would be a very cheap upgrade as u can pickup 8v GTI calipers for buttons

I presume the 1.3 calipers are the same as the 1.6 driver's, in which case i belive you can just replace the solid discs and appropriate pads with vented gti discs and pads to suit.

Yep, AFAIK you can...

Add the new discs with the pads to cuit, as the GTI pads are thinner but the discs are wider and vice versa but the diameter is the same, rubjonnys told me this orgiinally so I'd trust it

you sure theyre 239's? Would depend on what year 16v they came of wheter they are 239 or 256's. After 8/88 16v's came with the larger discs, and to use these you need later spec 16v hubs. The discs and pads youve put up WONT fit a car that originally had 239mm brakes but your cvalipers might fit your car (caliper year dependant). If you dont know the size of brake the caliper is for just stick with 8v calipers, as the are all 239's.

oh, and no mk2's had abs iirc, makes it more fun when you lower it and dont change the bias as rear wheels lock up first

hope that helps.

Gambit: All MK2 239 calipers are identical, no need to swap them to fit GTI 8v discs & pads.  However you will need longer caliper bolts for a 1.3 as one of them is too short (bottom one from memory).  For 1.6 on though you don't even need the bolts as they are the same length.  Its a good idea to get new bolts either way though as they tend to be buggered on MK2s

owls88: 256mm brakes only came on 90 spec 16vs. As well as Rallye, limiteds & G60 MK2s there were a few 'normal' MK2s equiped with ABS, but these are VERY rare :)
