What be wrong with my car lol!?

Golf Driver, 1.6 J plate Aug 1991 8v engine code EZ.... (Hope thats enuf info, shout if not)

Well if any of you have stumbled across my project thread u will already know that it had a water leak.

Today i set about fixing it, iv replaced the O ring that i thought was causing the leak and also the sensors that look a lil rusty to say the least. I took it out for a quick blast got back and there is steam coming out of the engine, the leak appears to be worse now?! might put the old parts back on !!!!

My main issue is that when running the car with the water filler cap off a foamy white substance comes to the top? Why is this? is it something to worry about? I checked for the obvious signs of a blown head, lack of power (not enough experience to say) white exhaust smoke (its damn cold but i think its just the temperature difference, steam?) White exhaust tip - deff not its black.......another thing i must look at. Mayonnaise in the rocker cover cap? None to be seen.....

So im at a loss? Anyhelp or advice / things to check?

Flush out all the old coolant, replace it and see if any comes back. If it does, get a compression check done.

I just took one of the hoses off the cable and put new coolant in.

When i say 'I' i mean my dad

Hose pipe or lots of fresh water. Then replace with more water+anti freeze.

Get a garage (or friendly AA Man) to do a sniffer test on it - you may have a crack in the head which is releasing carbon monoxide into the coolant.

Does the car idle OK?

It runs brilliantly, (apart from the what appears to be very common, high revs on start up)

Iv think iv found the leak issue, cracked plastic bit i think, so ill replace that. It was fine yesterday but i guess taking it on and off has fooked it. VW said it was a tenner ish
