Insurance questions (if your reading martinb)
« on: 22 February 2007, 23:28 »
Has any body tried that multicar cover from the likes of admiral and do they think its worth it?
im comtemplating insurancing both golfs (if i get the diesel) even though i'll only be using the cab for about six months of the year..
and how long do you have to declare your accidents for? is there a cut off period like when you get points?  :undecided:
Also..how long can an accident claim actually last for? is there a time limit on that?

I know the majority of these will need to be answered by the likes of martin but would appreciate comments/thoughts from those of you who have and run more than one car..

Hey Di

I haven't tried the multicar thing from admiral, how does it work? Can you jump in either vehicle when you like and be insured?
I simply have two separate policies on my car and van, both through Martin, they are both cheap enough to not worry about paying two lots. I also wanted an agreed value on my golf so I'm not sure if I could have had a combined policy.

I think the period which insurance companies take claims into account is 5years although it may vary slightly from company to company.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

Thanx Tobz...

basically i think you decide which cover you want for each car but both will be insured..
not sure how it affects the agreed value like what you have, hence wantin to know all the ins and outs before going down that route...
also it may work out cheaper for the cab if they are separate as i tend to cash the policy in, deducting the admin charge (robbing bar stewards ) with it only being used for like 6months.. :undecided:

I ran two cars for 6 or 7 years (not done so for 2 years now) and I had to have seperate policies, mainly because I had Class 1 insurance on one because of work use.
But even if I hadnt wanted that they always told me it was best to keep them seperate.

I dont really see that there could be any extra benefits from these new schemes, unless Martin can tell us different.

(Perhaps this should be moved into the new section?)

tut tut Di, we do have an insurance section now ya know......

tbh i have not ever dealt with the admiral multi car policies so have not got any personal experience of what the cover is like. I think its highly unlikely that the level of cover would be the same as on a specialist policy with regard to mods and agreed value etc which is why the specialist policies cost more.

When declaring claims it varies with companies, we are a broker and some of the companies we use ask for 3yrs, some 5 so we always ask for last 5years. Always declare everything to be on the safe side as most systems will automatically ignore anything that is too old now.

How long can a claim last for? How long is a peice of string? Again i dont really have much experience with handling claims but have heard of cases dragging on for many months. As far as im aware there is not a time limit but will try and find out from my boss when he is back in on monday.

Hope that helps a bit and feel free to ask away

Anyone with any experience of Admiral multi car i would be interested, hmmm i feel a bit of mystery shopping coming on!!
