yeah i thought this might happen but it doesnt ( i checked first!) as the factory crossover isnt as early in the wiring as you think. There are 4 wires going into the tweeter, two for power in and two wires go off to the door speakers. Just before the tweeter where there is a capacitor. use the two that go to the door speakers if you are going to amp the door speakers anyway or use the tweeter ones before they get to the crossover (capacitor) either way would work. ive just cut the tweeter ones, its all good.

Nickyb - You obviously didnt read what I said.

The new 10cm speakers in the dash will be full range speakers and I will rewire them to recieve the H/U front channel direct. I will then amp the speakers in the doors. (using the front channel of the 3 RCA's)
The original wiring and crossovers will be redundant.

Len, save yourself the hastle! i did, the tweeter signal isnt sorted until it gets right into the tweeter pod bit! take it out and you will be able see a red capacitor about half the size of an AAA battery ( an alarm remote size!) that is soldiered onto the wiring into the tweeter, that wire with capacitor in line will be the + wire on each side of the car. the ones that go down to the doors, but check anyway, ( as im sure you will!! lol! ) are just connect at the tweeter, before the capacitor. The wiring allready there will be plenty good enough, if you want to re do it all go ahead but I could see it being quiet a mission to do, so i didnt!

Thanks for that, makes it far easier.
been looking at speakers and i hope they will fit! Its the fixings that may cause problems as they stick out. So hope I can still get the standard mesh back on!

yeah you will need to watch that, mine are pretty flat and its a squeeze and takes some tiny turning and messing around with the position of the speaker to get it so the mesh clips will clip back in without getting caught on the edges of the speaker, where the screws would go like.

mine are like these :

http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/so/sony-xs-f1031-10cm-speaker.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/car-accessories/sony-xs-f1031-10cm-speaker.asp&h=200&w=200&sz=30&hl=en&start=3&tbnid=rfgd9_X6nNTaIM:&tbnh=104&tbnw=104&prev=/images%3Fq%3D10%2Bcm%2Bspeakers%26gbv%3D2%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG

and they fit, if they were similar to these though:

they wouldnt fit , the screwholes need to stick out, if that makes sense.

Up until the signal reaches the tweeter its the full frequency (as that is where the signal is split and sent to the door speakers, on the connector for the tweeter). on the tweeter there is a small capacitor filtering out the LF's, by removing that tweeter your removing the capacitor, so the replacment speaker would produce the whole frequency range(well not the whole range, but as much of it as the speaker physically could).

Oh wait, never saw the second page, lol nevermind then

How do people

right just a quick one regarding the front door speakers on a mk 3

my belovid Focals will no way fit, which is a hugh shame as they are absolutly awesome, alls not lost tho as they can go in my other car.

i have been given some brand new, jbl gto 603 mk 2 which are the correct size and fit perfect but the standard grill wont fit over them and i didnt get any grills with the jbl's either (hence why they only cost me £10)
i want the OG look anyhow..

im sure iv seen some mk 3 with deeper standard grills or am i dreaming???

any ideas anyone?
