Sean, the price quoted was £200 plus VAT, but that was the rear bumper only.
OK - that seems to be quite a fair if a little costly price. I used to get Astra rear bumpers professionally painted for GBP140 (hmm - my keyboard has gone funny!

).
HOWEVER, my dealer asked the warranty question and was told there wouldn't be one. He then pursued my desire for as near a factory finish as possible, and for it to last a real long time.
Gonads - any work the dealer carries out must be offered with a warranty - irrespective of if they sub-contract it out. Take Tracker installations for instance - it is listed in the VW price lists; and you can order the Tracker at the same time you place the order for the car; but they sub that out - and is still covered by the VW warranty.
Apparently the very confident body shop started getting cold feet and their answers became a bit paper thin.
Time to find another then.
Add to this my sudden thought that some gimp will spank the engine, after about 15 miles, all the way to the body shop and back.... and you come out with the decision to abort the plan.
*Gimp* - LOL. Sadly it is true that some VW stealers employ Kermits friends - I know some in my local area - usually belonging to the larger multi-franchise operators like Hartwell MannEgerton Ariva etc.
Too much could, and probably will go wrong.
I honestly doubt it - bodyshops have been painting and colour-coding plastic bumpers for years now - but if you do pick the one with the "Stifikat ov Mupetry"

hanging on the wall; you wont be too impressed.
The shadow blue is fairly dark which camouflages the black to some degree so i'll put up with it now. Might also contact a known bodyshop which has proven to be excellent in the past.

Go for it - you know you want to
